Dyann Logwood was the first African-American administrative director of the Women's Resource Center at Eastern Michigan University. She is a poet, writer, activist, and Assistant Professor in the Women's and Gender Studies Department, and also teaches courses in Africology and African American Studies, and Religious Studies.
Committed to Eastern Michigan University and its students, Dyann works on various committees, directs independent studies and research projects, advises student groups, and mentors numerous students. During her undergraduate career at the University of Michigan, she published a multicultural women's magazine called HUES (Hear Us Emerging Sisters) Magazine and traveled the country speaking about equality, body image, self-esteem and student activism. She has been featured in various publications for her activist work and has presented her research on Hip-Hop activism, feminism, mentoring, and Black women's struggles in institutions of higher education at local and national conferences.
She holds bachelor's and master's degrees in Women's Studies and Communications, and is currently pursuing a doctorate in Educational Studies. Her current pursuits include providing Eastern Michigan University students with the opportunity to mentor students at a local middle school through her Mentoring Youth in Urban Spaces (WGST 230L2/WGST 500) course, where students receive academic service learning (ASL) and learning beyond the classroom (LBC) credit. She—along with several Eastern Michigan University students, faculty and staff members—is on the coordinating committee for the Women of Color Feminisms and Leadership Symposium.
