Howard Bunsis Speech to the Board of Regents 6/10/14

I have been involved in AAUP leadership for 10 years.  This calendar year has been the worst in those 10 years in terms of faculty-administration relationships, and implementation of the contract. The support for such a claim is simple: we currently have 1 ULP and 4 arbitrations pending.   Faculty members do not feel as if they are protected in terms of safety. Untenured faculty members are afraid to speak.  The dept. of AA has violated the contract in numerous cases, and young, untenured faculty members are being told that if they go to the union, they will have problems.  By itself, this is another ULP that we have yet to file

Howard Bunsis Speech to Board of Regents December 10, 2013

I am speaking today in support of our College of Education colleagues, who are truly outstanding educators and teachers. You will hear from those educators – and their students - the numerous reasons why EMU s relationship with the EAA needs to be ended, unequivocally, as soon as possible. We at the EMU-AAUP fully support this stance, and today I am personally stating that EMU should end this relationship. The main reason for this position is that the EAA hurts our students, and it will have significant negative ramifications for the College of Education at EMU.

Thank you for the opportunity to address the Board of Regents. EMU stands as a beacon of hope and opportunity. Your first responsibility is to our students in order to maintain the integrity of our mission and values, succinctly summarized in our motto: Education First.
