A Message From the Student Interns of the EMU-AAUP
Welcome fellow students! We are going to start posting information in this space about your professors' union and the current labor dispute that has been happening between the administration and the EMU-AAUP since August of 2006. Yes, it is still going on. As some of you might be aware, the fact-finding process (agreed to by the AAUP to end the strike back in September 2006) has been moving forward at a slow, lumbering pace. It is a costly and time consuming process that could possibly result in a resolution to the contract dispute by the end of this semester--Winter 2007. However, the administration, as of yet, has been ambivalent about whether they will take the recommendations of the fact finder serisouly. We are taking this seriously and we want to know what you think.
We want to use this space as a means to open up communication lines among the students of all stripes and inclinations. What questions do you have about what is happening with the labor disputes at EMU? -- Side note: did you know that there are about 1,000 union employees at EMU working under expired contracts (EMU-AAUP - professors and UAW 1976 - the professional technical workers)? -- What is your stake in the disputes taking place on campus right now -- who do you support? How do you feel about the conditions of some of your school buildings? You can email anything relevant to your experiences at EMU to students@emuprofessors.org .
Best regards,
