Dear EMU Faculty: (Sorry for the length of this message - it is a very important issue which will affect faculty workloads)
I am writing to inform you of a major contract violation committed by Provost Schatzel and Associate Provost Jim Carroll. They have refused to get input from the Faculty Senate on the Academic Affairs budget for FY 2013. They were dismissive when asked why - saying they were not required to ask the faculty. The EMU-AAUP will be taking appropriate action to support the Faculty Senate input process.
With a heavy heart I am sorry to report but it appears that Michigan is about to become a right to work State. We need your help on Tuesday and in the future as we become organized to fight this new legislation. As of yet we are not completely sure what is going to happen.
I realize that this is a last minute request but there will be a union rally in Lansing all day Tuesday organized by the Michigan Labor Table that the MIAAUP is a part. We will be protesting the new "Right to Work" legislation as we believe it will be signed into law on Tuesday by the Governor. Synder needs to hear lots of voices protesting this new law.
We at the AAUP come before you today filled with the excitement of a new semester, and most importantly, with the satisfaction that we have a labor agreement that the faculty is very pleased with.
