Eastern Michigan Faculty Union and Administration Fail to Reach Agreement (13 Sept 2006)

Negotiations between Eastern Michigan University and the EMU-AAUP broke off at 5:45 AM this morning, with the two sides failing to reach an agreement on a new contract.

Classes will be held Wednesday. However, the EMU-AAUP will hold a faculty meeting at noon to discuss the union’s options, which include going back on strike, which can occur as early as Thursday.

The EMU-AAUP has suspended the faculty strike for 24 hours while we return to the bargaining table. As we told you, we wanted to negotiate until we had a mutually acceptable result, and this process allows negotiations to proceed.

EMU Faculty Strongly Reaffirms Strike Support; Administration Rejects Binding Fact-Finding (8 Sept 2006)

In an incredible demonstration of strength and solidarity, 389 members of the Eastern Michigan Faculty Union (EMU-AAUP) met today and reaffirmed their strong support of their strike. The faculty heard about the offers on the table from both sides, and they remain determined to stay on strike until a fair contract is achieved.

The university has put out a release tonight on the number of faculty, and we disagree about the long term rise int he number of faculty. represent a recent increase in the number of faculty. The number of faculty has increased in the last two years because it is recovering from an exceptionally low level, which the previous contract required them to correct.
